In accordance with the policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact information a domain is registered with must be correct and up to date at all times. Besides, this information is openly visible on WHOIS lookup web sites and while this may be okay for organizations, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since anybody can view their names and their personal email and street addresses, all the more so in an age when identity theft is not that uncommon. That is the reason why registrars have introduced a service that hides the details of their customers without changing them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. In case it is active, people will view the details of the domain registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they perform a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic top-level domain name extensions, but it’s still impossible to hide your private info with some country-code ones.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting

You can easily enable Whois Privacy Protection for any domain that you’ve registered with our company in case you have a shared hosting account with us. This can be done through the same Hepsia hosting Control Panel, via which you administer the web hosting account, so you will not need to go through different user interfaces. In the same section where all your active domain names will be listed, there will be an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon for each domain name whose extension supports the service. The status of this icon will quickly show you whether the Whois Privacy Protection service is enabled for a given domain name or not and by clicking that icon you can add the service if you have not done so during the registration procedure. Besides, you will also be able to renew or to disable the Whois Privacy Protection service for any domain name using that same icon and the update will take effect momentarily.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you would like to hide the contact details for your domain and you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with us, you’ll be able to add our Whois Privacy Protection service either during the signup procedure or at any time afterwards through your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is optional and can be enabled with a couple of clicks of the mouse from the Control Panel’s Registered Domains section where all the domain names that you have registered with us will be listed in alphabetical order. You can activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of the domain name extensions that support this service by simply clicking on the “Whois Privacy Protection” logo to the right of each domain. In the same fashion, you can also renew the Whois Privacy Protection service or disable it – if you wish to transfer a domain to some other registrar company and you need the actual email address associated with the domain to be visible.
